DESCRIPTION:Join us for a tour of the spectacular grasslands of the Euroa Arboretum with Bronte Haines\, Groundcover Restoration Co-ordinator. This one and a half hour tour will lead you through a brief history of temperate grasslands in south eastern Australia\, and the processes we use to restore and rejuvenate precious native grasslands at the Arboretum. \n\n\nWe will discuss the role of soil scalping and aeration\, cool burning\, warm and cool season grasses\, and identify some key species we care for\, many of which are rare and threatened. This tour will introduce the foundations required to begin the process of grassland restoration or meadow-style gardening for the patch you tend. \n\n  \nPresenter\nBronte Haines tends the grounds at the Arboretum. She has a Masters in Environmental Restoration. Her particular interest is caring for the little plants in grassy woodlands. DESCRIPTION:All the things we cannot see – a tour of the invisible \nOur little patch of Country is very dry. It is hard for our spirits not to be the same. We are offering a special tour of the grounds this winter: “All the things we cannot see.”c \nAt this time of year we would usually expect to see new shoots all over the grasslands\, lilies and mirnong with fresh new leaves\, and many plants offering an extra flower or two before the cold sets in. This year plants are still in stasis.  It is crunchy underfoot. \nGrasslands are ephemeral by nature\, and this means that many plants are only visible at certain times of the year; likewise\, in grassland care and restoration there are many factors we need to take into consideration but which cannot be directly observed. We will discuss how to identify grassland species when they are not in flower\, how to estimate soil nutrient concentrations without soil testing\, and why “empty” space is critical to healthy and diverse grasslands. We will also discuss the characteristics of indigenous grassland species that make them resilient to drought. If you look at a grassy patch and you’re not sure what you’re looking at\, this tour is for you. \nPresenter\nThis tour will be led by Bronte Haines\, Groundcover Restoration Co-ordinator. We are honouring the resilience of native grasslands during drought through this tour.

Louise Costa\, a landscape architect from Rushworth who transformed her 16-hectare property from regrowth forest to a safe space for native fauna and a thriving space for indigenous flora. It’s been such a success that we are looking to make this an annual event. \nCome along to make lanterns\, join the parade\, enjoy some damper and listen to stories by the campfire. \nThere will be: Bonfire\, Music\, Lantern parade\, Storytelling \nBYO lantern from previous year’s event or make your own lantern prior to the event. \nThere will be an opportunity for people who don’t have one to make a lanterrn at the event but supplies will be limited and it will be a case of first in best dressed. If you wish to make a lantern at the event we encourage you to bring a washed 2L milk bottle with the top cut off. \nBring picnic dinner and or snacks.\nWe will make damper as usual but this will be just a taste for the children. \nMake a Booking

DESCRIPTION:Event Sold Out but names will be placed on waiting list when booking.\nThe Euroa Arboretum welcomes Cassie Leatham\, Cassie is a master weaver with the Victorian Aboriginal Weaving Collective. She uses native grasses in her traditional coil weaving workshops where you will create a unique basket. She can also teach how to weave an armband with pandanas and flax leaves. \nAbout Cassie\nCassie Leatham is from the Taungurung / Wurundjeri people from the Kulin Nation. She is an Indigenous artist\, master weaver\, traditional dancer\, bushtukka woman and educator. \nShe is extremely passionate about teaching her skills to both Indigenous and non-Indigenous students of all ages. Her aim is to give participants the opportunity to learn and understand Aboriginal culture and develop knowledge of both historical and contemporary Aboriginal history. DESCRIPTION:  \nCassie Leatham Workshop\nBUSH TUCKER – Learn the traditional uses of indigenous plants with Taungurung woman\, Cassie Leatham (featured on ABC’s Gardening Australia} as she showcases up to 85 native plants from her private collection \nWorkshop 1 – 10am-12pm\nWorkshop 2 –   l .30-3.30pm \n\nthe $20 ticket includes one workshop only\, lunch and any other sessions\n\nSessions\nCOOLAMON CUTTING – Taungurung man\, Shane Monk will demonstrate the ancient method of a coolamon cutting. \nSTONE TOOLS – Shane Monk will discuss the cultural and natural resouces of the Traditional Owners\, including stone tools and fish traps. \nWEAVING – From identifying plants\, harvesting materials\, and creating your first basket\, Aunty Lee and Tanya Moate will teach you the essentials of traditional weaving. \nBUSHLANDS ‘WALK AND TALK’ – Join Brad Letman (Taungurung man) and Cathy Olive (Euroa Arboretum) for a tour around the native bushlands and wetlands of the Arboretum. Learn about the plants\, wildlife\, and Taungurung connection to country. \n\nthe $10 ticket includes all sessions and lunch..
