Taungurung Cultural Experiences
wawa biik translates to ‘hello Country’ in Taungurung language. It is a proud acknowledgement of biik (Country) as the keeper of Taungurung living Culture and stories. wawa biik offers immersive, educational cultural experiences that honour and regenerate Taungurung stories and contribute to the positive future of Taungurung Culture and biik. wawa biik is owned and operated by the Taungurung Land and Waters Council.
wawa biik experiences celebrate the Taungurung Nation’s enduring and deep relationship to biik (Country). Guided by passionate leaders of the Taungurung community, a wawa biik experience connects you with the people, places, and perspectives at the heart of Taungurung Culture. wawa biik welcomes visitors on half day experiences departing from Nagambie and Euroa.
Wawa Euroa
On this half day experience, wawa biik welcomes you to Euroa Arboretum (‘the Arb’), a nurtured pocket of Taungurung Country that connects to a story of healing, resilience and vitality. Spend quality time with Taungurung Elders who share the ways in which cultural life, both traditional and contemporary, are inextricably linked to biik (Country). Sense their duulin (pride) in looking after biik and Culture for future generations.
Experience a traditional Welcome Smoking Ceremony, followed by a guided walk along the daanak trail to learn of the cultural use of plants for food, medicine and resources, plus delicious morning tea, bush food tastings and yarning time.
Wawa Euroa Wayilak (for young people)
This 2.5 hour experience is an introduction to Taungurung Culture, specifically around the cultural use of plants. Led by two Taungurung guides, this experience is an invitation for families to enjoy a Welcome Smoking Ceremony, short cultural walk at the Arb and a painting class led by Aunty Jo. A fun, immersive foray into the interconnections between Country and Culture. Suitable for children aged 6-12 years old.
